Frequently Asked Questions

We know choosing a financial advisor comes with a lot of questions. Here are honest answers to the ones we hear most from Orange County families.”

FAQs

A financial advisor helps individuals and families plan for retirement, manage investments, and navigate major financial decisions like estate and tax planning. At Apriem, that means building a personalized plan around your goals, then managing your investments and adjusting the plan as your life changes.

Look for a firm with a long track record, transparent fees, and advisors who take time to understand your full financial picture — not just your portfolio. Apriem has served Orange County families for 28 years, with 10 advisors holding credentials including CFP®, CFA®, and AIF®.

Ask about their fee structure, whether they act as a fiduciary, how long they’ve worked with clients like you, and how often you’ll meet.

At Apriem Advisors, we help you organize, grow, and protect your financial life through coordinated advice and ongoing oversight tailored to your goals. This includes investment management, where portfolios are constructed, monitored, and adjusted over time; financial planning, such as retirement, cash-flow, and major-goal planning; and risk management, including guidance on insurance and asset protection strategies. We also provide tax-aware planning, estate and legacy planning coordination, and support during major life transitions.

Apriem Advisors is primarily compensated through ongoing advisory fees based on the assets we manage, typically deducted directly from client accounts. We also offer financial planning and estate planning services to both clients and non clients for flat fees based on individual needs.

Apriem Advisors generally requires a minimum relationship size of $500,000 to open or maintain an investment management account. Minimums may be reduced or waived at the firm’s discretion, and existing clients may be maintained at lower minimums.

Yes. Financial planning is included as part of Apriem’s investment advisory services when a client engages the firm for ongoing wealth management. Apriem also offers financial planning as a standalone service for clients who do not require ongoing investment management. Standalone financial planning is available across four service tiers, with fees determined based on the scope and complexity of the plan.

Not at all! While we’re always happy to meet in person, we also offer virtual meetings. Wherever you’re located, you’ll receive the same personalized, high-touch experience.

Yes. Apriem’s investment strategies are developed and managed by our internal team. In certain cases, based on a client’s specific portfolio needs or objectives, we may utilize select third-party investment platforms to access additional investment options. Even in those situations, Apriem remains responsible for designing, overseeing, and managing the overall investment strategy.

Apriem Advisors provides comprehensive wealth management services designed to support clients at every stage of life. Services include investment management, with ongoing portfolio construction, monitoring, and adjustments; financial planning, including retirement planning, cash-flow planning, and goal-based planning; and tax-aware planning designed to improve after-tax outcomes. We also offer estate and legacy planning coordination, risk management and insurance guidance, and support during major life transitions.

Asset protection typically involves diversified investing, proper insurance coverage, and coordinated estate planning. Apriem works with Orange County’s most successful families to build wealth management strategies tailored to multigenerational goals.

Transferring accounts is typically handled through an in-kind transfer process managed by your new advisor and custodian, with minimal disruption to your investments. Apriem’s team can walk you through this process during your first conversation.

Women of Wisdom is Apriem’s dedicated initiative for women navigating financial decisions and life transitions — including widowhood, divorce, and inheritance — with education and guidance built specifically around those experiences. The program reflects Apriem’s broader philosophy of white-glove, multigenerational wealth management, applied to the moments where women are often making major financial decisions on their own for the first time.

A fiduciary is legally required to act in your best interest, while a non-fiduciary advisor may only need to recommend “suitable” products. Apriem Advisors acts as a fiduciary for its clients.
